Grizzly Bears of the Wild

Sea Wolf Adventures’ grizzly bear tours on Vancouver Island give you the opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with British Columbia’s iconic bears on an intimate and immersive wildlife watching experience. Venturing into traditional territories, this Aboriginal-owned tourism adventure ensures sustainable wildlife viewing that also supports First Nations’ communities.

What will you see?

Granted unrivalled access to villages where Seawolf's owners and guides are honoured members of the community, you will share the cultural significance and stories behind the scenery as you travel towards the bear viewing areas, enjoying Vancouver Island’s whale watching opportunities as you navigate waters favoured by migrating orcas.
Where do you go?

Journeying into the Great Bear Rainforest with Indigenous guides, you'll spend your time searching for grizzly bears. As every season and day is different, the guides will adjust the route to give you the best and optimal grizzly viewing experience, travelling to places such as Knight Inlet, Bond Sound, Thompson Sound, or Hoeya Sound. Pacific white-sided dolphins dance alongside the bow of the boat, Mayumi, as you start your adventure with a two-hour journey from Port McNeill, or the First Nations’ village of Alert Bay, into the beautiful territory of the collective tribes that make up the Kwakwaka‘wakw. Eagles soar overhead and animals roam the shell-strewn beaches where ancient villages were once occupied by Indigenous people. Listen to your guide’s Indigenous interpretation of local landscapes as you learn more about the birthplace of their ancestors, from ancient traditions to contemporary culture.

Following grizzly bear viewing and lunch catered by Cluxewe Waterfront Bistro, this truly unforgettable wildlife experience ends in the Broughton Archipelago and Blackfish Sound. Here you will often encounter the gentle giants of the Pacific: migrating humpback whales.

*Please note that bear viewing areas are subject to change without warning due to weather or animal activity, but your guides will find the best places to see these majestic creatures from a safe and respectful distance.

What kind of boat will you travel on?

Seawolf's 33 foot vessel, the MAYUMI, was built in Oregon and delivered to Vancouver Island. The 3100 North River OS is designed with a unique and highly stable hull which allows greater payloads and tougher seas to be navigated. It meets all Transport Canada Specifications and Regulations for safety and stability. The boat operators are licensed by Transport Canada and the vessel is certified for 12 passengers and two guides. A heated cabin and marine head makes for a comfortable ride!

Your family and friends will be safe with the unequalled stability provided by North River’s hull design, either while under power or at rest. North River’s huge reverse chines allow occupants to move freely about the deck. Few other boats on the market can match North River’s design and safety.
